The laboratory of Michael P. Fischbein, MD, PhD, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with a background in stem cell or vascular biology to join its research program. Using both animal and human aneurysm models, the laboratory focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms that control aneurysm formation in patients with connective tissue disorders. Induced-pluriopotent stem (iPS) cells from human Marfan syndrome patients have been successfully differentiated into SMC from different embryologic origins (second heart field, neural crest cells and praxial mesoderm). This in vitro model sytem allows us to uniquely study how SMC origin influences regional differences in aneurysm formation.
